Bang & Olufsen has unveiled a luxury iPhone headset, joining others in a growing market for pricy, distinctive electronic accessories.
Bang & Olufsen has not yet announced the cost, but given that EarSet 3i improves upon the earlier generation EarSet 3, which retailed for $200, consumers should expect a similarly priced device.
The EarSet 3i isn't the only luxury earbud set of its kind on the market. Samsung offers sparkly bling to consumers with its Pink Rhinestone Diamante earbuds, while Pioneer pedals multi-colored headphones and Thinksound provides wooden models as well. There are even gold and diamond earbuds on the market from iDiamond Ear, which for $6,400 cater to the truly weathy.
In addition to earbuds and full headsets, some phones themselves are going high-class. Japanese crystal maker Baccarat developed a limited edition phone priced at $980 in February, while diamond merchant Cartier tempts buyers with gold-plated phones for $310.
Gresso's phone made of 200-year-old black African wood costs $13,000, which is nothing compared to the world's most expensive handset, a diamond-encrusted, 18-karat white gold wonder from GoldVish, setting buyers back a mere $1.3 million.
Compared to these lavish options, Bang & Olufsen's earbuds look cheap. Of course, given the average cost for headsets range between $10 and $20, it would definitely pay to keep track of one's Bang & Olufsen earbuds.
