The Sun, a tabloid newspaper in the U.K., says Her Majesty, described as "very switched on," was impressed with the tablet's ease of use, screen and lightweight construction. The sources also say Prince William and his brother Harry described their grandmother as cool and her fascination as hilarious.
"She thinks it will be great to keep her entertained on all the long trips she has to make," said the Sun's source.
Queen Elizabeth, who has over 57,000 Facebook "likes" on her page, is quite a fangirl of the Cupertino, Calif.-based company's gadgets and already owns at least two iPods. She bought her first iPod, a silver model able to hold 1,500 songs, in 2005 and received the second one, loaded with images of an earlier trip to America, as a gift from President Barack Obama during an official visit in 2009.
If her request isn't filled immediately, the Queen may ask her grandson Prince William and his new wife, Duchess Catherine, to pick one up personally at Apple headquarters during the couple's planned visit to California this July.
But the Queen isn't the only high-powered official with an iPad-fetish. Last month, President Barack Obama said he also owns an iPad. "I'm the president of the United States. You think I've got to go borrow somebody's computer?"
Nobody knows what the Queen plans to use her tablet for, but it may be put to good use. In March, Hungary drafted its new constitution on an iPad.
With all the fun the royal family is having with the iPad, they might want to reconsider Steve Jobs' knighthood. Reports say former British Prime Minister Gordon Brown refused to knight Jobs because the Apple CEO rejected an invitation to speak at a Labour Party conference.
