Samsung Galaxy S II announcement taking place on August 29th in NYC

While it seems like it’s taken forever, the Samsung Galaxy S II will soon be announced for the US. Samsung has begun sending out invitations for an event in New York City on August 29th. Given that there’s a large, “II” at the bottom of the invitation, there’s little debate as to what the announcement will be for.
We can imagine that Samsung will announced all four (or more) Galaxy S II variants for the major carriers, and hopefully launch dates will accompany said announcements. It may have missed the expected August windows, but we supposed it’s just a month away. If the mentioned device in the leaked Verizon road map turns out to be true, the Stratosphere should launch on September 9th, alongside the Bionic, with LTE in tow. The only other rumored release date is for the T-Mobile Hercules, which is slated for September 26th.
The Galaxy S II has proved to be even more popular than the original, and we can only imagine that the handset will see the same success in the US. Even with the iPhone 5/4S on the way, it’s likely that neither of Apple’s upcoming products will support 4G networks, and should give the Galaxy S II variants a leg up if they do support each carrier’s high-speed data networks. Of course, this is all speculation and we’re just excited to see that the handset will soon officially make its debut.
Samsung’s latest Android handset will likely be the most popular available for sometime, and may only be eclipsed by the next Nexus handset. That said, we have our doubts that the next Nexus phone will have the reach of the GSII, and will likely remain on just one carrier.
With a little over two weeks until the announcement, you can now begin to choose which carrier you’ll want to jump on for one of the most anticipated Android handsets of the year.
