U.S. President Barack Obama will meet with a list of technology executives today in California, including Apple CEO Steve Jobs and Facebook Founder Mark Zuckerberg.
The closed door meeting is part of an event for business leaders in tech-friendly Silicon Valley. The point of the meeting is to discuss how the technology industry can help with the economy and job creation, something Obama said in his State of the Union speech last month.
"All the smart graduates today want to go to Google and Facebook instead of Wall Street," said Mark Warner, a Democratic Senator. "Without innovation and a growing economy out in Silicon Valley, we're not going to be competitive."
In a year when not much improved in the U.S. economy and hiring was still about as sparse in most areas of the country as it had been in the two previous years, Silicon Valley hiring increased in 2010. The area added 12,300 jobs last year.
The president will not arrive in San Francisco until this evening. He'll spend the rest of the day meeting with Democrats for lunch, holding a meeting on education, and signing a bill.
