TELUS Goes Live with ’4G’ Network in Manitoba

For the life of me I have no idea how long the good folks of Manitoba have been waiting on a network update from TELUS. The update was a critical one for many, because without it such hallowed devices such as the iPhone 4 have remained unavailable. That is, unavailable until now. The network update has finally been completed, and the iPhone 4 (among other devices) is now well and truly available from the carrier in Manitoba. Hurrah!
While TELUS bills their ’4G’ network as live in Manitoba, when you take a look at their updated coverage map, you may come to a different conclusion. 4G coverage now blankets the Manitoba capital (and surrounding area) of Winnipeg… with projected coverage extending south-east to Steinbach, and as far west as the Brandon area. While the good folks in Winnipeg are now rejoicing (maybe), folks in other areas of the province no doubt remain stewing in their boots.
For what it’s worth, I’m pleased that TELUS has finally updated their network, but it’s a darn shame that more Manitobans aren’t covered in the initial launch… especially when you consider how long folks have been waiting.
At any rate, this is a solid first step, and more coverage is no doubt to come (keeping my fingers crossed). If you would like some more information, take a few minutes and pop on over to TELUS.
Note: While the iPhone 4 is no doubt the marquis device now available on TELUS in Manitoba, other wonderful devices such as the BlackBerry Bold 9780 and HTC Desire HD are now available as well. Finally, some next-gen device pickin’s for the good folks in Canada’s gateway to the west.
One last note: If you were wondering, the big ‘T’ has the iPhone 4 (16 GB) up-for-grabs at $159 on a 3-year contract, or $649 off contract.
