Motorola ATRIX 4G gets fed Gingerbread

Just the other day, we reported that the Motorola ATRIX 4G was undergoing a soak test for the Gingerbread update. The "World's Most Powerful Smartphone" must have passed the test as the OTA upgrade to Android 2.3 has begun. However, if you rooted the phone or unlocked the bootloader to download the beta version of the update, you will have to flash back to receive the OTA download, which is v.4.5.91.

The Motorola ATRIX 4G is now getting upgraded to Gingerbread

Besides updating the Android OS build on the device, the upgrade brings a number of enhancements to the phone. One enhancement allows you to aggregate all your photos, your friends' photos and photo comments from social networking sites like Facebook and Picasa in one place, making it easier to view. A change in the UI of the phone makes the background white on menus to make them easier to view. An enhancement to the app tray will now allow you to divide your apps into groups to make them easier to find.

The update brings location based social networking to the ATRIX 4G, allowing you to find reviews from Yelp and Facebook in one place so you can see what people around you are recommending. FireFox 4.0 comes with an enhancement to the Webtop dock to make browsing using the accessory faster and easier. After the update, video can be viewed at 1080p. Groups can be made to divide your email into and a conferencecall can be set up with just one touch. Once you have downloaded the update, you will be allowed to sideload apps and there is an enhancement that allows you to dismiss one notification at a time.
